BigVillage – a brief history Our aim is to provide the opportunity for anyone of any level of ability and experience to develop their interest in theatre. BigVillage are an active group and are involved in several productions throughout the year. We started in 1996 as RBDC, just a bunch of bankers meeting in Milnes, and for the first year we tried to find our acting style through reading plays and holding workshops - and we plumped on comedy. Old history dating back to our formation can be found here. January 2008 saw the One Act Competition performed at the Bedlam. Read the review. In April we performed "A Woman of No Importance" by Oscar Wilde, again at the Bedlam theatre. The Fringe performance for 2008 was "The Virtuous Burglar" by Dario Fo. In November, we performed 'One Night Stand' a devised comedy show, on for one night only at the Pleasance Cabaret Bar. 2009 was another busy year for the club, starting with the spring show of "Harvey" and the invisible rabbit was a lovely Easter treat for all the family, hot on the heels of Harvey was "Homecoming" by Ali Rutherford, performed at South Leith Church Hall as part of the Leith Festival, then it was straight into the Fringe with Lorraine McCann's endearing and heartwarming tale of a charity shop and a magic teapot in "The Love Shop". 2010 saw the group performing Neil Simon's The Odd Couple (female version) at the Bedlam Theatre. Our Fringe production was Bowels by Neil Walden, the winner of our Writing Competition. There are plenty of opportunities for whatever aspect of theatre you may be interested in. We hold regular workshops/training sessions to develop theatre skills with the emphasis on fun. We also have plenty of social events and fundraisers, including treasure hunts, dances, theatre visits and tours. Red underlining means you can click on the item to get more information.
