Our aim is to provide the opportunity for anyone of any level of ability and experience to develop their interest in theatre. BigVillage are an active group and are involved in several productions throughout the year.
We started in 1996 as RBDC, just a bunch of bankers meeting in Milnes, and for the first year we tried to find our acting style through reading plays and holding workshops - and we plumped on comedy.
We have performed in the Fringe Festival for the last five years and have previously competed in the SCDA One Act Competition. Our first venture was the One Act Festival (winners of the Bobby Watt cup for stage presentation) and the Fringe with "Brothers Angelo" in 1998. This was followed by the full length play "The Importance of Being Earnest" in 1999 and our canteen show "Nuts". Then the One Act competition again in 2000 with "Rave No More" - winner of the Ian Wishart Quaich (3rd place) and The One Act Competition in 2001 with "Ways and Means" - winner of the Ian Wishart Quaich (3rd place) and the Bobby Watt cup for stage presentation.
2005 saw a plethora of shows under the pseudonym BigVillage Theatre Company , "Trivial Pursuits", a sell out at the Fringe with "Whodidit?" and the two winners of the one act writing competition and a work in progress made the November offering, "Acts of Love".
2006 was BigVillage’s 10 year anniversary and a bumper basketful of goodies were planned: social events, theatre visits, quiz nights, entrance in the One Act Competition, "Audience" by Michael Frayn
(online
review) the Fringe, a production of "Ghost Train" by Arnold Ridley in April but most importantly a star studded Oscar ceremony in November.
There are plenty of opportunities for whatever aspect of theatre you may be interested in. We hold regular workshops/training sessions to develop theatre skills with the emphasis on fun. We also have plenty of social events and fundraisers, including treasure hunts, dances, theatre visits and tours.
